About the work
Support modeling, simulation, AI/ML and anomaly-detection research for AstraSense. Work may use MATLAB/Simulink, Python or hybrid physics/AI workflows according to project needs and the candidate’s strengths, with attention to reproducibility and low-power embedded integration.
What you will do
- Develop and refine system models in MATLAB/Simulink or Python, including inverter, motor and sensor behavior.
- Run physics-based simulations and document assumptions, parameters and the difference between synthetic and measured data.
- Build data-processing and feature-extraction pipelines for electrical, vibration or acoustic signals.
- Prototype anomaly-detection methods using classical ML, small neural networks or hybrid physics/AI approaches.
- Support synthetic fault datasets and model evaluations, including separate training/test runs, false-alarm analysis and uncertainty.
- Assist with C/C++ code generation and embedded integration using Simulink Coder/Embedded Coder or Python-based workflows as appropriate.
- Compare models and algorithms with available lab or field data; record mismatches and evidence gaps.
- Contribute documentation, tests and automation across the AstraSense modeling workflow.
What you bring
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink or Python, including relevant scientific libraries.
- Interest or experience in anomaly detection, predictive maintenance or other AI/ML methods.
- Understanding of physics-based modeling, power electronics, controls or signal processing.
Useful additional experience
Embedded software, code generation, time-series evaluation or a reproducible research/class project.
Initial project to agree
An initial project could be a versioned simulation dataset and an anomaly-detection baseline for a defined subsystem, with documented assumptions and a repeatable evaluation. Engineering review will determine which conclusions are supported by available data.
Project context
AstraSense’s aviation development is supported through NASA SBIR work. This role supports that engineering context; funding does not establish certification or validation of every application.
About AstraQua
AstraQua is developing a modular autonomy architecture with AQFM as its shared intelligence foundation. Specialized agents contribute perception, reasoning, health and coordination. AstraSense is the health-intelligence agent, with electrified aviation as an initial research application; it connects condition and remaining capability with mission decisions. Our approach to safe AI emphasizes defined operating boundaries, deterministic safety controls, operator authority and behavior designed for verification and validation.
