AstraQua
Location: Los Angeles, CA or Louisville, KY
About the work
Support digital logic, signal processing, AI acceleration and hardware testing on Microchip PolarFire and/or Xilinx/AMD devices. This remains an internship, with engineering tasks scoped to the candidate’s experience and the selected development platform.
What you will do
- Develop and simulate VHDL/Verilog modules, testbenches and reproducible hardware builds.
- Support fixed-point implementations of feature extraction such as FFT, envelope detection, RMS and harmonic analysis where relevant to the assigned design.
- Explore VectorBlox CNN/SNN acceleration and Xilinx Versal AI acceleration modules within the team’s existing platform work.
- Work on MIPI CSI-2, DDR, high-speed data paths and memory management; assist with ADC or processor interfaces when required by the selected board.
- Support hardware bring-up, timing closure and comparisons between simulated and measured behavior.
- Record latency, resource use and power measurements where equipment permits, and document numerical precision and test coverage.
- Maintain design notes and verification evidence that make engineering review and future assurance work easier.
What you bring
- Basic Verilog or VHDL knowledge.
- Familiarity with Libero, Vivado, Vitis or similar tools.
- Interest in AI on FPGA, embedded digital design or hardware signal processing.
Useful additional experience
Fixed-point arithmetic, DSP coursework, HLS, simulation/testbench development or a small FPGA project with documented results.
Initial project to agree
An initial project could be one feature-extraction block with a reference model, testbench and hardware demonstration, including resource/timing results and known limitations. The team will agree a suitable scope and platform.
About AstraQua
AstraQua is developing a modular autonomy architecture with AQFM as its shared intelligence foundation. Specialized agents contribute perception, reasoning, health and coordination. AstraSense is the health-intelligence agent, with electrified aviation as an initial research application; it connects condition and remaining capability with mission decisions. Our approach to safe AI emphasizes defined operating boundaries, deterministic safety controls, operator authority and behavior designed for verification and validation.
