Power Electronics & High-Voltage Sensing Engineer

Website AstraQua

Location: Los Angeles, CA or Louisville, KY

About the work

Develop the sensing electronics and test infrastructure that let AstraSense observe degradation in motors, inverters and high-voltage wiring. Connect physical measurements with labeled datasets and requirements-based engineering evidence.

What you will do

  • Design sensor front ends and signal conditioning for requirements-driven voltage, current, temperature, vibration and acoustic channels.
  • Evaluate target measurement ranges of 0–450 V, −400 to +200 A, temperature channels up to 215 °C and vibration up to ±50 g. Confirm channel specifications, isolation and measurement uncertainty before selecting hardware.
  • Develop insulation-monitoring and electrical-noise/EMI sensing approaches for the selected high-voltage subsystem.
  • Build instrumented motor/inverter benches and controlled degradation or fault-injection experiments under approved high-voltage laboratory procedures.
  • Measure harmonics and electrical noise; deliver labeled datasets with calibration, operating-condition, timestamp and provenance records to the AI team.
  • Plan subsystem operation against the −40 °C to +85 °C environmental target and applicable DO-160 qualification objectives. Distinguish planned qualification from completed evidence.
  • Document schematics, PCB designs, test procedures, anomalies and changes, and coordinate data-quality checks with modeling and embedded engineers.

What you bring

  • BS/MS in electrical engineering, plus at least three years in power electronics, motor drives or high-voltage systems.
  • Analog front-end and PCB-design experience, including safe high-voltage laboratory practice.
  • Hands-on inverter/motor testing with oscilloscopes, power analyzers and data-acquisition equipment.

Useful additional experience

Insulation-resistance or partial-discharge monitoring, EMI/EMC testing, DO-160 work, EV powertrains or eVTOL-related engineering.

First 90 days: scope to agree

Agree a first-90-day objective: an instrumented bench and an approved experiment that produce a traceable dataset for a selected insulation or harmonic fault mechanism. Confirm safety review, equipment, channel ranges and labeling criteria before committing the scope.

About AstraQua

AstraQua is developing a modular autonomy architecture with AQFM as its shared intelligence foundation. Specialized agents contribute perception, reasoning, health and coordination. AstraSense is the health-intelligence agent, with electrified aviation as an initial research application; it connects condition and remaining capability with mission decisions. Our approach to safe AI emphasizes defined operating boundaries, deterministic safety controls, operator authority and behavior designed for verification and validation.
