About the work

Build and validate MATLAB/Simulink models that connect system behavior, fault effects and AstraSense health estimates. Help translate requirements into testable models, reproducible datasets and clear engineering evidence, with particular attention to electric propulsion and sensor behavior.

What you will do

  • Develop MATLAB and Simulink models of electrical, mechanical and control-system behavior, including motor, inverter, sensor and degradation effects within an agreed subsystem scope.
  • Create fault-injection cases and automated test harnesses for nominal, degraded and boundary conditions; document parameters, units, assumptions and model validity limits.
  • Generate synthetic fault signatures that complement scarce failure data, keeping simulated results distinct from measured bench or operational evidence.
  • Compare model outputs with available measurements, estimate parameters and investigate discrepancies rather than tuning only to a preferred result.
  • Link requirements, model interfaces and acceptance tests. Maintain repeatable analysis scripts and versioned datasets.
  • Support software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop preparation with embedded and systems engineers, including timing, scaling and interface checks.
  • Where appropriate, evaluate code-generation workflows and verify that generated components preserve the intended numerical behavior.

What you bring

  • Hands-on MATLAB and Simulink experience with model-based engineering and automated analysis.
  • Strong understanding of dynamics, controls, estimation or electrical-system modeling.
  • Ability to document assumptions, validate models and manage changes using version control.
  • Ability to communicate numerical limitations and compare models with physical measurements.

Useful additional experience

Stateflow, Simscape, model test automation, Simulink Coder/Embedded Coder, parameter estimation, real-time test equipment or hybrid physics/ML workflows.

First 90 days: scope to agree

Agree a scoped first-90-day objective: one subsystem model with a repeatable fault-injection test set, traceability to agreed requirements and a comparison against available measurements. Document where evidence is insufficient to call the model validated.

About AstraQua

AstraQua is developing a modular autonomy architecture with AQFM as its shared intelligence foundation. Specialized agents contribute perception, reasoning, health and coordination. AstraSense is the health-intelligence agent, with electrified aviation as an initial research application; it connects condition and remaining capability with mission decisions. Our approach to safe AI emphasizes defined operating boundaries, deterministic safety controls, operator authority and behavior designed for verification and validation.
